Lake Garda is among Italy’s top holiday destinations also due to the fact that it has a mild climate making it a warm place to be almost all year around. Italy is all about great cuisine, hospitality and amazing culture. If you are one of the people who love visiting old sites, old city centers, monuments that stand for centuries to remind visitors of the glorious past, then you need to visit the old commune of Sirmione. Located in the lower part of Lake Garda, Sirmione is the place where you can visit many beautiful edifices such as Grotte di Catullo, The Scaliger Castle, old churches and markets. However, if you are the kind of person who loves the new rather than the old, Lake Garda is the place for you. Why? Lake Garda is located half-way between Brescia and Verona, and between Venice and Milan and there are many means of transportation to get to these amazing cities.
If you want to enjoy your own Italian fashion spree then Milan is the place to be. Hiking in Lake Garda
Hiking is one of the most popular sports around Lake Garda, particularly in the region around the Monte Baldo mountain range, where you can find many beautiful and challenging walks; not to mention the breath taking panoramic views of the lake you can take in on your journey. There are many starting points for great walks around the lake from Garda to Torbole on the eastern shore, this shore along with the southern shore are perfect for those wishing to take in a nice easy hike.
For the avid walkers and experts looking for a serious workout, the north and western shores will give you exactly what you are looking for; where the steep mountain paths can give you unbelievable views of the lake. Whichever path you take, each and every location will give you stunning views, however, the higher you go, the more impressive the views. If you are brave enough to venture to the very top of Monte Baldo, you will bear witness to one of the most stunning views you could ever wish to see and likely never forget. A word of advice, in warmer climates you are best to go out as early as you can because haze from the heat during later hours can restrict your view. Monte Baldo is around 6000ft so remember to take some warm clothes with you as that it is going to be a lot cooler at this elevation even in the summer.
If you prefer a more leisurely walk then there are dozens of lake side paths for you to take lower down the mountains that are within easy reach for even the most sedentary person. Wandering down by the lake, listening to the gentle lapping of the water is one of the most romantic feelings in the world; there are also plenty of beaches along the routes to take a weight off your feet, have a rest and watch the boats idly drift by.
Night life, Today I'm going to share with you a few of my favourite bars and clubs around Lake Garda , first there is a wonderful little tavern found in Torri del Benaco called " Don Diego" this local tavern offers live music and their famous speciality " Sangria " which you just have to try at least once, they also have beer and wine on tap and also serve a truly appetizing cold plate of local salami, cold meats and cheese which is served until 2 o'clock in the morning.
If you find yourself anywhere near Bardolino and you fancy dancing until the early hours of the morning then try visiting " Hollywood " Nightclub which has both an interior and exterior dance floor with a swimming pool to cool you off after dancing in the warm summer nights. Finally for a more relaxing atmosphere and great service there is bar Riviera found near the lake front of Garda town, just ask for Massimo who speaks perfect English who will be happy to serve you one of his many delicious cocktails.
Camping, If you are on a budget camping is a good option while visiting Lake Garda. The wide choice of campsites to choose from certainly favor you the customer. With such stiff completion one can grab an excellent bargain especially when you book a few month in advance. Lake Garda has hundreds of campsites dotted all over lake Garda, from Riva del Garda to Sirmione you will be able to find a wide choice of campsites. You can find many excellent offers from Keycamp, Selectcamp and Suncamp all of which offer a wide range of choices from 2 birth tents to 8 birth caravans depending on the size of your family. You also have the choice of being directly on the lake front or up on Monte Baldo which offers some beautiful trekking routes and cooler temperatures.
Thermal baths, Lake Garda has many natural thermal baths, I recommend visiting either Sirmione del Garda or Cola' di Lazise In addition to the most renowned spa facilities, such as the Baths of Sirmione the Lake has many beauty treatment spa's saunas and salons that offer excellent treatments. If your planning to visit lake Garda and your in need of a much earned rest it would be a crime not to visit these truly revitalizing and invigorating natural sources of wellbeing. Many Hotels near the Spa offer a wide range of treatments such as ocean mineral therapy and full body massages assuring your stay at lake Garda will be a relaxing one.
Where to visit ,The region of Lake Garda offers many places to visit, culture, art and Italian history. You can take one of the many tours on offer and visit some of the most beautiful destinations around the lake, learn the customs and meet the people. Guided tours around Lake Garda will take you to beautiful towns, such as: Peschiera, Castelnuovo del Garda, Lazise, , Garda, Torri del Benaco, Malcesine, , Sirmione, Desenzano del Garda, Bardolino, Desenzano del Garda, Manerba del Garda, Limone sul Garda and many more.
As the lake is only 20 miles from Verona it's highly recommended you take either a guided tour or just go and visit the city of Romeo and Juliet by yourselves. With the famous Arena and other Roman and Medieval buildings such as the Basilica of San Zeno Maggiore this splendid city has been awarded the World Heritage Site status by UNESCO. Also for football enthusiasts why not visit Verona Bentegodi stadium , home to Hellas Verona and Chievo Verona playing in Serie A , Italy's top division.
Lake Garda under 70 pounds per day in two
So you want to take a break for a few days but don't have a fortune at your disposal? No problem, today I'm going to give you some travel tips on where to stay and eat out so you can budget a three day break at around 200 pounds not including flights although you can find many cheap flights for around 50 pounds per head if you book early with Ryan air. To save a money you will need to find a Hotel that isn't in a prime location but at the same time not so far away that you end up in the middle of nowhere. Caprino Veronese is a perfect location as it's right between the lake and Monte Baldo.
Getting there : From Lake Garda Bresica airport you can catch a bus or train to Peschiera del Garda where you can catch a bus direct from the train station to Caprino Veronese. For accommodation I recommend Albergo gardaland al Vignol The cost for a double room is about 45 pounds per night bed and breakfast. From here you can visit beautiful Monte Baldo , Just hop on one of the many buses passing the Hotel every half hour, you can go all the way to Ferrara a typical mountain village.
In the other direct the local bus service will take you to the town of Garda where you can enjoy the free beaches and scenic trekking paths around the lake front. In the evening 10 pounds each will get you a delicious pizza and a cool beer or glass of wine leaving you with some change to enjoy a relaxing drink on the lake's promenade.
Sports : Outdoor planet offer some great canyoning adventures at lake Garda , you can also try white water rafting and other extreme sports. For the fisherman of the family, I would also suggest checking out the fishing opportunities at Lake Garda. This lake is well known for producing some good size trout as well as being home to forty species of fish. The trout is named Queen Of The Garda. This should give you an idea of the popularity of this fish among anglers of the lake. There are a few rules however when fishing at Lake Garda. In general it is prohibited between the hours of one hour after sunset to one hour before dawn with the exception of eel fishing. You can also buy a fishing permit for lake Garda online here.
