For those into serious hiking its best to head to the northern part of the lake – here you will find challenging routes that take you right up into the mountains. It’s always best to embark on these trips with some local knowledge, so pick up a trail map – also be sure to check the weather forecast and be prepared for inclement weather as conditions can change quickly

At the southern part of the lake the mountains are replaced by foothills which make for easier walking and beautiful, if less dramatic, views. For those who just want to pop up and take a peek at the mountain scenery, the cable car at Monte Baldo is highly recommended. It will take you to this mountain’s peak which stands at over 2,000 metres, from here you will be able to get stunning views of the surrounding scenery and down onto Lake Garda itself. The cable car can be accessed from the town of Malcesine.
