Lake Garda is the largest and most visited lake by tourists in Italy. Formed in the last Ice Age covering just under 400 sq. kilometres, reaching high up into the Alps. This beautiful mountainous region makes it one of the most spectacular settings in the world.

Garda town is found in an enchanting cove bay and is the most popular lake side town. You can visit the many local restaurants and shops specializing in local cuisine and  leather.

A must location to see is the Hermitage of San Giorgio, a monastery that dates back to the seventeenth century. Other buildings well worth visiting are the Palazzo dei Capitani del Lago, the Palazzo Carlotti and the Villa Albertini.

Just when you think you have seen all lake Garda can offer , the more you travel round the lake the more you will realise just how much spectacular scenery Garda has to offer . After exploring the delightful town of Malcesine and it's 14th Century castle you can continue around the less commercial side of the lake and enjoy the beautiful towns of Manerba and Limone sul Garda.

Lake Garda's climate is softened because of the presence of it's large body of water, which makes the weather slightly cooler than the neighbouring cities like Verona. Some of the  villages close to the lake such as Garda, Lazise, Sirmione, Torri del Benaco, Bardolino, Limone and Peschiera are wonderful places to visit with a great choice of hotels, B&Bs, villas and other accommodations or just for wandering around the cobbled streets filled with shops, hotels and restaurants and are home to bustling lakeside markets.

The Lake has many local ferries operating along the shores from north to south of the lake  especially in high season or during holiday weekends when its best to travel via the water than by land because of the many tourists using the roads.

The roads that ring round Lake Garda are narrow and winding but do have some breathtaking views but because of the narrowness of the roads there not really suitable for the many visitors coming from Germany and other European countries.

The scenery found around the lake Garda area boasts towering mountains, lush green rolling countryside, olive groves, beaches and vineyards.
